This year’s Dragon Boat racing took place on 28th August, again right in front of Aaran Guesthouse on Weymouth Beach. The event was organised by Melcombe Regis Rotary Club (for those who do not know – Melcombe Regis is the bit of Weymouth on the seafront where most of the guesthouses are). Races were run from 10am onwards, 3 boats per race, 14 to 20 rowers per crew, with crew fees going to charity at the rate of £150 per boat for the day. This year saw some overcast and slightly drizzly conditions to start with but a significant sum was raised for local charities and the crowd watched crews, some in fancy dress, showing their rowing prowess and having a great time. The evening was rounded off by fireworks, sponsored by Weldmar Hospicecare, with proceeds again going to charity.
