The NAO Victoria has been visiting Weymouth Harbour for the first time ever. She has been moored up about 50 yards down the Harbour from Aaran Guesthouse, with daily tours for the public, from 4th till 12th May. Yesterday (15th), there was a session of Sea Shanties on board, which rang out around the Harbour, bringing quite a crowd in the sunshine.

The current NAO Victoria is a faithful recreation of the original member of the Spanish five-ship circumnavigation of the Globe, in 1519. The Victoria was the only ship to make it all the way round. Visitors on board the recreation were able to see at first hand the cramped quarters and “challenging” living conditions prevalent in the 1500’s and could only wonder at the calibre of the men engaged on this exploit of history.
